Clip Quality Assurance Disclaimer
I took a huge risk making the choice to film lifts in a high-security shopping center. I assumed the risk of being in trouble, getting caught, getting detained, or getting kicked out & banned from the shopping center. I acted per those risks & only filmed each lift for one round trip at most. By doing this, I greatly mitigated the risk of getting kicked out, busted, or detained. Given what happened to lift filmers before in similar types of locations, I catastrophized all the risks & made logical choices when filming each lift which would reduce the chances of a negative result happening. Due to this, the clips will be choppy, but choppy is better than nothing. You will have to deal with it.
Omission Disclaimer
Lifts which did not have functional alarm bells in working condition were skipped entirely throughout the trip. Lifts which were out of order were skipped entirely. Service lifts were omitted from the lift galore as were freight lifts & other special-permission-based lifts to mitigate the risk of a negative encounter with security, as outlined above in “Clip Quality Assurance Disclaimer”.
Introduction
The American Dream shopping center is America’s second largest shopping center, after the shopping center out west in Bloomington, Minnesota. This lift has a total square footage of 3 million, or 280,000 square meters. The lifts are mostly Fujitec (main part) with KONE HornrtDiscs (amusement park). Each of the 4 sets of lifts filmed are identical in appearance, so only the run character will be discussed. Pictures are not provided. They each travel 350’ per minute but run differently from each other despite using the same motor & controller. All lifts were installed by Fujitec. They use EPCO Survivor+ buttons with ACME indicators.
Lift A
These lifts were at the northern end of the shopping center near the gold carpark entrance. These lifts accelerate smoothly but quickly & the jolt is very slight. They have a very quick deceleration & leveling time. These are the quickest of the four main sets of high speed lifts throughout the shopping center. These serve all floors except for 3. These lifts have a rating of 29/40 on the Rising Salamander Lift Character Report overall, meaning they have a grade of “B”. They are great lifts.
Lift B
These lifts are farther south & open up into the food court on level 3. Unlike the previous set of lifts, these lifts serve all 4 levels. These lifts accelerate very slowly but they decelerate rather quickly with a drop, or a hard stop. They have several leveling phases as they decelerate in chunks instead of one clean go. They level as if they are 1980’s Westinghouse Selectomatic Mark VI lifts. These in a way are more interesting than lift set A with a rating of 31/40 on the Rising Salamander Lift Character Report overall, meaning they have a grade of “B”. They are great lifts.
Lift C
These lifts are opposite to lift set B. They have a very similar run character to lift set B, but the acceleration going down is barely noticeable, making the user feel like they are not moving at all when in reality the lift is accelerating extremely slowly. They rate 27/40 on the Rising Salamander Lift Character Report overall, with a grade of “C’. They are basic standard lifts.
Lift D
These lifts are at the southern end of the shopping center & are the last lifts at the end of the main corridor before diverging into the Nickelodeon Universe passageway. These lifts serve all four levels, but the top three levels (1-3) are a huge atrium not seen at the lobbies of the previous 3 northern sets of lifts. These lifts aren’t glass, though. Like lift set A, these lifts accelerate wickedly fast, with extremely hard deceleration & very quick leveling. They rate 32/40 on the Rising Salamander Lift Character Report overall, with a grade of “B”. They are great lifts. These are the best lifts throughout the shopping center that I personally have been on.
