The Secaucus Showdown of July 2021

Updated: Sep 4, 2021

For this showdown, we have broken it into 2 parts: The corporate town (part 1) & the hotel town (part 2). The corporate town contains the following locations:

  • Gateway Plaza (a high-rise office building)

  • 400 Plaza Drive (a low-rise office building)

The hotel town contains the following locations:

  • Embassy Suites

  • Holiday Inn

  • Courtyard by Marriott (Bonus Clip)

Part 1: Corporate Secaucus

For the corporate town, we will mainly be focusing on two office buildings of differing heights with differing designs & different lifts:

  1. The Gateway Plaza, which is a standalone building on its own city block surrounded by a highway loop between Harmon Meadow Blvd & US-1

  2. 400 Plaza Drive, which is one of the conglomerate corporate office buildings on Plaza Drive in Secaucus

Gateway Plaza

This building has a set of 3 epic & awesome DoverPayton relay-logic controlled lifts. This lift has tri-phase acceleration & triple-speed leveling & it provides a view of the highway & La Quinta Inn & Suites as well as a taller corporate center across US-1. Apart from the fixtures, this lift is almost completely untouched & even has the original digital floor indicator, even though the first car was glitching a bit. The fixtures are now GAL VR. This lift rates 4.6 stars on the GC Lift Character Report. There is no security desk on either 3 parking levels.

400 Plaza Drive

This building had 2 pairs of two basic standard Dover traditional hydraulic relay-logic controlled lifts. One of the pairs has a glassback cab, the other pair towards the back of the building exiting towards the Holiday Inn doesn’t (I didn’t get to ride it!). Unlike the first lift, this lift faces the interior atrium of the building, is hydraulic & serves 5 floors. It has brass/gold panels so that’s a plus. This lift has an analog Dover floor indicator whereas the other lift had a digital floor indicator. Both lifts were installed during the 1980’s. This lift is completely original with its relay-logic system, motor & fixtures untouched since. It is very fast for a hydraulic lift. This lift is easily accessible even though it’s a corporate building. There is no security desk.

Part 2: Hotel Secaucus

For the hotel town, we will be focusing on 3 hotels from different brands with different types of lifts as follows:

  1. Embassy Suites: 9 floors & Westinghouse/KONE lifts

  2. Holiday Inn: 8 floors & Dover/Schindler lifts

  3. Courtyard by Marriott: 7 floors & Westinghouse/Fujitec lifts

Embassy Suites

This lift is a great high-speed generic KONE lift which replaced a former Westinghouse lift apart from the doors. There’s not much to say really about how it runs.

Holiday Inn

This hotel was evicted due to COVID concerns, so I had to use a 2017 clip for it. This lift is epic & awesome & has the original Dover DC pulsing traction units with the Schindler 6400 microprocessor logic. It is very fast for the height of travel & the red fixtures blend in very well with the car.

Courtyard by Marriott

This lift is at the Courtyard by Marriott which is across the street from the Embassy Suites. Originally a Westinghouse high-durability AE dry-powered hydraulic unit, later modernised heavily with Monitor TR by Fujitec with motor kept fully original. It is epic & awesome due to the features, leveling & how the motor sounds so uniquely for a Courtyard by Marriott.
